The Long awaited Launch of the Dubai Metro took place at 9.09pm on the the 9th September 2009 the red line which runs through some of the World's most expensive real estate from Jebel Ali to Dubai International Airport was officially open by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum.

Initially only 10 of the 29 stations will be active when first opened the remaining stations will appear on line in the following few months.

The Tickets will be rechargable and can be purchased at vending machines at each of the stations, there will be four different ticket classes available, A Silver card which is designed for frequent travellers, The blue card will have loyalty programmes with online services.The gold Card which gives you access to leather seats and carpeted gold class carriages.or single trip red cards are available.

The metro will run between the hours of 6am to 11pm Saturday to Thursday and from 2pm to midnight on Fridays at peak times frequency will be every 10 mins then increasing to every 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
