The long awaited Dubai Metro System is undergoing trials in anticipation of its opening date on September 9th 2009 (999) the metro has been undergoing trials for a year now on the active track and many residents have been able to see the driverless trains operating already, full passenger services will commence in September on the 70km track linking Dubai Airport, the Sheikh Zayed Road down to Jebel Ali including and a spur along the Palm up to the Atlantis Hotel.

The multimillion dollar Metro system is long awaited to ease congestion form along the notoriously congested Sheikh Zayed Road , Fares have been recently announced which will remain subsidised by the Government to encourage use of the Metro.

There will be 3 classes on board the trains and a ticketless system is being rolled out which takes the form of a Nol Card ( Nol comes from an Old Farci word meaning Fare ) There are four types of unified automated fare collection cards called Nol Silver, Nol Blue, Nol Gold and Nol Red, these will represent the different fare classes available on the train also the frequency of use with different credit limits available on to the Holder.
